District Co-operative Milk Producersí Union Ltd, is popularly
known as Madurai Aavin.
This is one of the largest dairies in the southern part of
Tamilnadu. Madurai Aavin
was started during the year 1967 as Madurai Milk Project. The
project and the dairy machinery were funded by the UNICEF under
free from Hunger Campaign Committee.
From 01.01.1974 Madurai Aavin brought under the control of
Tamilnadu Dairy Development Corporation Ltd, Chennai.
From 1982 onwards Madurai Aavin was converted and functioning
as a District Co-operative Unit. The members of this Co-operative
unit are the Milk Producersí Coop society at the village level in
and Theni Districts.
Madurai Aavin is a Co-operative organization statutorily
controlled by the Commissioner for Milk Production and Dairy
Development, Government of Tamilnnadu. The apex body for this unit
is the Tamilnadu Co-operative Milk Producersí Federation Ltd,
The Madurai Aavin located in an area of 39.42 acres of land
at the junction of the K. K. Nagar and Annanagar in the Madurai-Sivagangai
Highways, nearer to the Office of the Madurai District Collector.
